For people who live near their
workplaces, commuting to work by bicycling or walking can be a great
alternative to using a car. Bicycling and walking benefit you by
improving your health, eliminating the cost of gasoline, tolls, and
parking, lowering car insurance by driving fewer miles, and reducing
stress. Regular physical activity, such as walking or bicycling to
work, helps reduce the risk of coronary heart disease, colon cancer,
high blood pressure and diabetes. It also helps in controlling
weight, relieving symptoms of depression, and developing healthy
bones, muscles and joints. In addition, walking and bicycling
benefit the environment and help create more livable
communities.
